Testing from a users perspective

October 19th, 2006 by jon

This is not actually Jon posting on the blog it is Richard. Jon said he was having difficulty posting information on the blog so he gave up. I am now testing it from Elm Bank. If this works then you should all be able to log on and post information. A reminder is that your username is your name and the password is your school.

KS3 ICT onscreen test

September 13th, 2006 by richardpeaden

Another year and only one more chance to get involved in the onscreen test before it is compulsory. The process can be very easy and you can get involved in a week.

You need to start with expressing an interest. This will give you access to a workstation and server audit which you download from RM. You will need to run it on at least 20 workstations. Once this data is sent to RM they will dispatch the software to you and you can install it on your workstations.

The advantage of having the software is the familiarisation materials which you should be using now in order to give your students the best possible chance when they will do it live in May. You must get involved in the pilot this year so that you can become aware and make SLT aware of the issues involved in administering the tests.

The test window this year is: 30 April - 25 May 2007

A new begining

Welcome back. I hope that you all had a restful break. I am looking forward to working with all of you this year and have high hopes that we can all move further forward. A reminder that the first Subject Leader day is Wednesday 20th September. I look forward to seeing you again on that day.

Have fun

Podcasting vs PowerPoint

July 26th, 2006 by richardpeaden

It is so easy to create a podcast that you could use it with students instead of PowerPoint. Although the podcast that I produced was created on a Mac using GarageBand to allow me to put on a set of image you can create a podcast easily on the PC. There are two assets that you might want to get. The first is Audacity which is freeware. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. It allows you to put on a backing track and then record your broadcast.

You can use creativity to storyboard the podcast. This is a piece of software comes from the practical support pack on TeacherNet. http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/supportpack/module.aspx?t=2&s=4&m=18592&n=248508&b=417432

You can use the Audio website audio.lgfl.org.uk, which is free if you connect through the Coventry schools network, to get your background music.

Marking would look at the appropriateness of the language and the audio assets. I think that it would be just a little different for Y7 and might inspire them more.

The burning question for today is:
